Pre-clinical interview .....Today!!!

Just wanted to tell everyone that we had our pre-clinical interview today. This is an interview we have to do before we start clinicals at the nursing home next week. We will be at the nursing home for 3 weeks and then we are at the hospital.

We had to go into our on-campus clinical instructor's office (myself & my friend that I've meet since starting nursing, Nicole) we had to talk to the instructor and just tell her a few reasons why we wanted to be a nurse, if we had any family members that are nurses. She told us some info about the nursing home that we will be going to.

Then we had to answer a few questions....ie. what we are looking for during a patient's physical assessment, how we would listen to lung sounds, where to find the Apical pulse, etc.

After that my parter and I had to take turns and doing vital sings on each other to show the instructor that we knew how to do it (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration). The instructor said we did a very good job.

We were so nervous before going into the interview, afterwards we were glad it was over. She was really sweet though, just a little nerve racking because we didn't know exactly what to expect.

I've been busy getting papers & projects done ahead of time so that I won't have to worry about them. And studying.....between my Nursing classes, Pharmacology and Nutrition, and practicing different skills I've been busy! I actually just got signed off on my first skill the last Thursday, on Tube feeding. There is so much to learn.

FYI this is what I'm going to be doing in school (a short run-down of the program if you don't know) Nursing I (which I'm in this semester) focuses on the elderly and basic skills (that's why we are starting in the nursing homes & to ease us into it!) Nursing II which I start in Jan. lasts only about 2 months and focuses on the psychological area, working with adolescents and young adults. Nursing III is on more complex skills and we work with the middle-aged adults. Nursing IV (next August) focuses on Mothers and babies (I can't wait!) Then Nursing V focuses on critical care.

We have our first Nursing Exam next Weds. (be praying for me!) There are 75 questions and they are all multiple choice, but they give you different scenarios and you have to pick which answer fitsbest. There might be 2 answers that are right but we have to determine which is the best!! So I'm going to be studying all weekend!

Meg is getting ready to go to Rock the Universe tonight @ Universal. I wanted to go so bad...but decided against it this year. She's seeing Jars of Clay, Build 429 and a few other bands that I can't think of at the moment. Should be lots of fun!

Ok, well that's about it. Just wanted to give a little update on how things are going. Thanks for keeping me in your prayers & I miss you guys!

One more thing...Just wanted to thank my mom, dad, brother & sis for letting me practice on you!! I did my physical assessment on my mom, that I have to turn in. My dad was kind enough to offer is face for me to practice shaving (in case I have to do that in the nursing home/hospital) and his arm for blood pressure. Andrew & Meg for letting me listen to their lungs & BP etc. Thanks guys...you ROCK!
